Today Mia was able to get some tummy time for the first time and she actually lifted her head and moved quite a bit! I actually missed it (was in another room pumping), but my Mom and Robert were there to see it happen. Her feet were too cute to pass up taking a picture!
Speaking of pumping, Mia is still only receiving nutrients via her IV and is retaining her weight well. Soon they're going to try to give her some of the breast milk just one or two drops to start with to see how she responds. Lord willing, she'll do great and will be able to get more nourishment with her milkies!
The nurse said that soon I'll be able to change Mia's diapers and give her baths, too! I'm excited about that!
As soon as she's weaned off of needing to have the tubes through her belly button/umbilical cord, we'll be able to hold her - at last!
One surprising thing to us was that our little Mia doesn't even have Hydrocephalus as expected from all the ultrasounds. They said that the ventricles (or whatever it is) were "puffy" but it's not qualified as Hydrocephalus. So, praise God!! That's one less potential problem she'll have to deal with!
Mia is no longer using a catheter and she's wetting her diapers very well, so we're very happy with as well!! As far as we know, she's had 3 meconium stools, so her plumbing is working!
Today was very hard, as Robert has written about earlier. Thankfully, the doctors don't sugar-coat anything, which is really hard to deal with at first, but we're grateful they lay it all out on the table. Please continue praying for Mia - they still have no idea what is wrong, but they've ruled out a lot of theories that they were thinking. They're thinking that it's just some very rare genetic disorder of some sort. Pray that God will continue to give the doctors and nurses the wisdom they need and that they won't just give up and say they've done all they can. Even if they have done all THEY can, we all know God can do anything! Nothing is impossible for Him - the Bible is full of miracles He has preformed and He can most certainly do another one in our daughter!
Pray for Mia's brain and nervous system that it would just send the signals it needs to so she can start breathing on her own and that she'll be able to function normally.
