Hi all, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Rachael is recovering nicely. She is now awake and making conversation.
I talked with the nuerologist about a half hour ago. He had just looked at a sonogram and an EKG. They were able to give Mia medicine that has caused the seiazures to stop, at least for the time being.
The bigger problem appears to be that she has some abnormal brain development. From the ultra sound she is missing the part of the brain that connects both sides (septum pellicidumn? Doctors chicken scratch is a little hard to read). She also has a something else that is smaller than normal (partial agenoris corpus collasum?).
The nuerologist said there would likely be some long term issues as far as her ability to quikly learn things but he did not indicate that they would nessicarily be health threatening. He said she would likely need to be in special ed classes in order to give her more direct help. He also said that there is a possibility that none of these will affect her in the long term. It will take time to see what is going to happen.
We probably won't find out any thing more tonight. I will send out another e-mail tomorrow when I find out more.
