Today is another positive day for Mia. My parents went in and saw her very early in the morning (4am) before they left to drive back up to Reno. They said that she is quite the night owl and was very active and moving around. When Rachael and I got there later in the morning she was a little bit more sedate however, throughout the day she did start to take more breaths on her own, much like she did on Wednesday. Although it is still to early to tell, it would appear that she is doing this more often on her own which is a great sign. One thing that is confusing though is that after she is handled she seems to go back to depending on the ventilator.
Rachael and I also met one of the neurologist today that we had not seen before. He was very nice and answered lots of our questions. He also took time to examine Mia as well as to go over all of her medical records (she has quite the binder now...). This doctor is really hoping to find some results from the muscle biopsy that was done yesterday. He seems to think that the issue here might not really be a brain connection issue but possibly a muscle issue. Hopefully if that is the case, then at least there maybe some more options for Mia.
Overall, Rachael and I much happier at this time. We know that we are not even close to being out of the woods yet but at least we have a lot of other doctors that are bringing different ideas to the table. Most importantly, Mia is also improving and if she keeps this up, than we are on a very good path. Keep up your prayers and support!

What a wonderful picture! You guys look so happy!! Praise God she is getting better, and that there may be some answers as to what is going on with Mia. I continue to pray for you all. :o)
ReplyDeleteHi, Came across your blog, my daughter Violet was born with a few medical condtions, one of which is Hydrocephalus. The road has not been easy but she is now 3.5 years old and doing alot better. We are so proud of what she has already achieved.

Every morning when I get up for my quiet time with my Jesus, your family is the first thing on my mind when I get to the "concerns" or "requests" part of my conversation with Him. My heart just hurts for what you're going through, but am so thankful you're aware of His presence and His guiding!

Just watched Gifted Hands (Dr. Ben Carson, pediatric neurosurgeon) and thought of your family the whole time! I know that God puts certain doctors in our lives at the perfect time, doctors that HE has brought up and guided through their lives to the point where their paths cross yours! It's all a symphony and He the conductor!
Yeah! We are happy to hear that Mia is improving! God is so good! I love your family picture. Look at those smiles!!
